Volunteers are asked to commit 1 hour per week for the Fall Semester from September to December and/or the Spring Semester from February to May.
Volunteers will be coaching students on site at Dillard Drive Elementary School located at 5018 Dillard Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.
There will be a 1 hour training session at the beginning of each semester to give volunteers a tour of the school and teach them basic math games that help strengthen student skills. Updates will be sent by email throughout the year. All materials, lessons, and games are provided. Volunteers need just bring themselves and a desire to help.
Volunteers can sign up for the time most convenient for them. Coaching times for the following year have not yet been determined.
Volunteers will be coaching students one-on-one. Each coaching session lasts for 30 minutes so usually a volunteer will be paired with 2 students during the 1 hour volunteer time. The relationship between the coach and student is the foundation that will help students reach their potential.
Volunteers need not be trained in high level math or understand common core. Coaches will be working with students to increase basic math skills and number fluency such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
